NEW VIEWS ON VIDEO VIOLENCE

In the article “New Views on Video Violence” by Dorothy and Jerome Singer, watching violence on television can cause more negative effects on children than reading stories about violence in books. First, children receive more powerful image from the camera when they watch violence on television. The image used the camera which has a feature to emphasize it. Second, children take many hours watching TV. Third, many children tend to watch violence on television because they cannot read by themselves. Fourth, when parents read to a young child, parents improve of story’s contents, but when children watches television, it is impossible to change the contents. Finally, when children read a book, they can change and control their reading pace. In conclusion, TV violence many bad influence with children than reading violence in books. I agree with the authors watching violence is worse than reading violence. First, many years later young boys and girls don’t think about the violent images but it remaind brain. When I was young watching violent programs with guns, I following that attitude like with toy guns to people. And children who are in the juvenile hall, they think knives are just to hurt someone. Second, children watching violence program are violence and cruel. They copy TV violence, such as many people together kick just one person, fire something and crush something, they will enjoy it. If they do something wrong, they think that’s no problem. In conclusion, violent programs influence bad attitude to children. Parents have to choose good education channels such as National Geographic, Animal Planet and cartoons. If parents want to protect children from TV violence, parents should choose TV program carefully.
